Infrared Light Therapy Devices

Up until recent years, laser hair removal or infrared light therapy were only available in select spas and treatment centers. Fortunately, infrared light therapy devices available on the market today are non-invasive and safe to use at home daily! In fact, very little knowledge is necessary to operate one of these devices, and most importantly, you have no side effects to worry about! Having said that, there are four common mistakes that first-time users tend to make with light therapy devices.

1. Not being consistent with your treatment.

One of the biggest draws of portable red light therapy devices is the fact they don’t require professional assistance in order to operate. In fact, it’s encouraged to use them as often as possible, therefore, not using your device at least five times a week means you’re squandering your investment.

2. Wearing sunscreen or clothing on the treatment areas.

Though sunscreen is formulated to block UV light, applying it before using infrared light therapy devices will mean not allowing the unit to work at its full strength. Additionally, wearing clothes that may block direct light from penetrating your skin will completely diminish the positive effects of the therapy. It is especially important to consider whether your makeup has built in SPF protection as it may hinder your skin’s ability to absorb infrared light.

3. Not sitting the perfect distance from your device.

The jury’s still out on what the appropriate distance is to sit from your portable device. It’s crucial to employ a bit of trial and error on your part to see what generally works for your conditions. Usually, for common skin ailments, it’s recommended to sit 12 to 36 inches from the unit. However, when dealing with pain or other issues requiring deeper light penetration, a distance of 6 to 12 inches is advised.

4. Not making your sessions the ideal length.

Having sessions that are either too long or too short may also negatively impact the outcome of your light therapy results. It is agreed that around 10 to 20 minutes is the best option for making the most of the light. If you keep your sessions too brief, you’re unlikely to enjoy any real benefits or see any actual results.

Infrared light therapy devices penetrate the deepest beneath your skin and many will often use these portable units to help their skincare regimens and aid in muscular or nerve pain management. Scientific studies suggest that these devices are both fairly effective and have virtually no side effects to speak of!
